Karnataka Jesuit Priests invited the Holy Cross Sisters to teach in their aided Kannada medium school. We were given two teaching posts in the government aided section. The fathers were already having boarding for the boys who were from economically backward catholic families. So we have been able to begin the boarding for the girls who were economically poor.

Sensing the need of the time, a hostel for the engineering students as well as for the degree college students was started in the year 1996. There were many students who took admission initially in our hostel as well as in the boarding. Slowly the local people started offering facilities attached to their residence for 'Paying Guests'. Many girls from our hostel started moving into such a set up as 'paying guests' as they could get the comforts of single room system and enjoy much freedom. So the number in the Holy Cross hostel started to decline. Eventually, the hostel for the engineering students ended in its inevitable closure in the year 1999

We then took time to discern as to what suitable activity we could initiate which would meet the need of the place. As a result of the discerning search we arrived at the decision to convert the hostel space into an English medium school which we began in 2003.

Our Community is situated towards the border of Kerala and Tamilnadu. This locality is known as Pottayilkada. The people of this area belong to Nadar Community, a mixture of Malayalees and Tamilians from Kanyakumari District. They are classified as backward communities. 80% of people are small land holders possessing only a few cents of land. Many are either Government employees or coolie workers. The empowerment of women has helped them to increase their dignity and leadership in the society. Alcoholism and high dowry system still exist in this society.
