Purpose:

To render service in the then suburban parish of Mumbai, Kalyan.
To have a house in Mumbai to facilitate transaction with the mother house and the Indian mission for better accessibility to the airport and the harbor.
The Proposal to have a separate and independent English medium School solely for girls, came up from the Parishners of the Our Lady of Lourdes Church in 1973. Hence on 13th June 1974, the ‘ Holy Cross Convent School’ was started with 400 students from K.G to std IV.

Social-cultural background:

The first unit in the state of Maharashtra, Kalyan, situated 54 km, from Mumbai, close to the central Railway station. It is a thickly populated area with a floating population. The majority of the people belong to the lower middle class. It is a culturally mixed society - with Marathis, Goans, Keralites, Guajaratis, Tamils, Anglo-Indians and Parsies live side by side. The languages spoken by the vast majority of the people are Marathi, Hindi and English.

Service Content	Eductaion Holy Cross Convent School and Jr. College is the only convent school for girls in Kalyan (west). Kalyan being a main Railway junction, the school enjoys a prime place of importance. Service Content	Pastoral activities : Sisters are involved in the pastoral activities and all the spiritual exercises in the Parish and its sub-stations. Sisters take time out to attend to the home- bound, old and sick people on weekly basis. Conduct family visits in the surrounding villages by way of extending their support and encouragement. Sisters attend the Condolence Prayers and prayer services on special occasions in the families.
